Police are trying to find the man who allegedly robbed a Republic Bank in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
The robbery occurred on Thursday morning, shortly after the bank opened for the day at 8:30 a.m. The suspect reportedly walked into the bank, which is located on Route 70 in Cherry Hill NJ, and approached a teller. The suspect then allegedly handed a note to the bank employee, with the note ordering the worker to hand over cash.
Once the suspect had an unspecified amount of money in his hands, he exited the building and fled the scene on foot.
Fortunately, no one was harmed during the theft incident. Afterwards, bank workers dialed 911 and alerted the Cherry Hill Police Department.
The Cherry Hill Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office are working together on the investigation into the bank robbery. At this time, investigators have not yet been able to determine the suspect’s identity. He has been described as a black male who has a large build and stands approximately 5-feet-11-inches tall. When the suspect allegedly committed the bank robbery, he was wearing tan pants, a dark hooded sweatshirt, and a wool hat on his head.
If the suspect is eventually identified and captured, he would face severe penalties. Since the suspect did not brandish a weapon, such as a firearm or a knife, during the bank robbery, it is likely that he would avoid criminal charges for armed robbery. However, as set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, anyone who commits a theft while putting another person in fear of immediate bodily injury can be charged with a second degree felony. This means that the suspect would potentially be subject to a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison if convicted of second degree robbery.
