A 25 year old man has been charged with the stabbing of another man at a motel in Egg Harbor Township.
Florencio Ramirez-Martinez has been charged with aggravated assault, possessing false government documents, and other weapons offenses as a result of the incident. Martinez and the victim allegedly had some dispute that led to him stabbing the man in the neck at the Rex Motel around 2:30 in the afternoon. He is currently being held in the Atlantic County Jail on $75,000 bail.
Aggravated assault is a very broad crime in New Jersey as there are over 10 different charges under the statute. In this case, Martinez will probably be charged with aggravated assault in the second degree since he allegedly caused serious bodily injury knowingly while manifesting extreme indifference to the value of life. This charge will carry a penalty of 5 to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison if convicted.This charge is also included under the “No Early Release Act” meaning that at least 85 percent of the sentence has to be served before parole eligibility.
