Authorities arrested two people this morning at a house in Franklin Township on drug and weapons charges.
The arrests were made in connection to a two month investigation of alleged prescription drug distribution that was allegedly being done out of the house. The suspect, Corey Cox, was arrested for selling the drugs to an undercover officer and was subsequently charged with distributing prescription medications to an undercover police officer. A search of the house also resulted in charges of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and unlawful possession of a handgun. He is currently being held in Salem County Jail on $125,000 bail. The second suspect was Cox’s girlfriend who was arrested on an active warrant.
Which degree of distribution of prescription medication Cox is charged with will depend on how many pills were involved. If the amount was over 100 pills, he could be charged with the crime in the second degree, which means there is a presumption of incarceration. Second degree convictions carry a New Jersey State Prison sentence of 5 to 10 years. The unlawful possession of a weapon charge could also be a second degree charge that can result in 5 to 10 years in prison.
