A man from Brooklyn has been convicted of several sex crimes after it was discovered that he had a two year relationship with a teenager from Camden County.
The man, Hiram Celestine, was 34 years old when the relationship began back in 2010 while the girl was under 16. Throughout the relationship, they would meet in public parks and motel rooms around Camden County including Pennsauken, Monroe, and Woodlynne. After two years, the girl tried to end the relationship. According to the prosecutor, Celestine then tried to meet up with her again to have sex and raped her when she denied his advances.
After jury deliberations, they returned with a guilty verdict on five counts of sexual assault, resisting arrest, witness tampering, attempted sexual assault, criminal sexual contact and harassment. He is currently scheduled to be sentenced at the end of October and could receive 20 years in State Prison for each sexual assault count. Further, a conviction will result in Megan’s law registration. This requires that a person register their address with the police station and keep them updated with any changes in address, schooling, and employment.
