Camden NJ police are investigating a report of fraud perpetrated against the Dell computer company.
Officials from the computer company contacted police and said that they had received several fraudulent orders for items, including computers and projectors.
When police investigated the report, they learned that all of the suspect orders had been placed from a house on the 1100 block of Liberty Street in Camden, NJ.
Police later arrested a 49-year-old man who listed the address as his residence. The arrest came after police executed a search warrant and allegedly found the illegally obtained computer equipment on the premises.
After being placed under arrest, the suspect was charged with theft by deception and conspiracy to commit theft.
If the suspect is convicted of theft by deception, he could face severe consequences. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:20-4, theft by deception can be classified as a third degree felony if the value of the property taken is greater than $500. That means that the suspect in this case could be sentenced to between three and five years in New Jersey State Prison.
Following his arrest and booking, the suspect was taken to the Camden County Jail and held there on $100,000 bail.
