Gloucester Township NJ police are searching for a man who allegedly stole $1,400 worth of baseball equipment from a local sporting goods store in November.
According to authorities, the suspect walked into the Sports Outlet store on 703 Black Horse Pike in the Glendora section of Gloucester Township, New Jersey. The suspect then allegedly looked at a number of different baseball gloves before stealing them.
Store employees noticed that the merchandise was missing and contacted local police.
Gloucester Township investigators arrived at the scene and obtained surveillance camera footage from the store. According to police, the video footage shows the suspect perusing merchandise before shoving a pair of baseball gloves down his pants. The surveillance footage also reportedly shows the suspect concealing more gloves and then leaving the store without paying for them.
Authorities estimate that the value of the stolen gloves is approximately $1,400.
Gloucester Township police are actively investigating the alleged theft. If the suspect is eventually identified, he could face serious criminal penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:20-11(b) classifies shoplifting as a third degree felony when the value of the goods taken exceeds $500. A conviction on third degree shoplifting charges carries a potential penalty of 3–5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
