Police in Pennsauken New Jersey are investigating a number of car fires that may constitute arson.
According to authorities, there were a total of three car fires in Pennsauken Township and Camden, NJ. All three fires reportedly occurred within a few hours of each other sometime after midnight.
The first fire was set on the 3900 block of Royal Avenue in Pennsauken, New Jersey. Pennsauken police later found broken windows and shattered glass on the street around the vehicle.
The second car fire occurred just a few minutes later on Woodland Avenue, approximately one block away from the location of the first possible arson attempt. When Pennsauken police investigated, they reportedly found that the tires on the car, a Mercedes-Benz, had been slashed.
Roughly one hour later, a third fire was reported near the intersection of Garden Avenue and Highland Avenue in Camden, New Jersey. After the vehicle was towed, police found ash and scorch marks on the pavement.
Thankfully, no one was hurt as a result of the fires.
Law enforcement is currently investigating the three possible arson attempts. At this time, police have not identified any suspects.
If a suspect is eventually identified and apprehended, they would be subject to significant criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:17-1, the purposeful starting of a fire that recklessly places another person in danger of death or bodily injury is typically classified as a third degree felony. Offenders are subject to a sentence of 3-5 years in NJ State Prison.
