Police are investigating an armed robbery of a CVS Pharmacy in Woolwich Township, New Jersey.
The Woolwich Township Police Department received a call about a robbery at the CVS pharmacy located on Center Square Road. The theft reportedly occurred sometime after 11 p.m.
When police officers got to the scene, they spoke with store employees. CVS workers told police that a white male entered the store and took a female customer hostage.
The suspect allegedly told a store worker that he would shoot and kill the hostage if the employees did not hand over the store’s supply of oxycodone. After the suspect got the oxycodone, he ran out of the store and fled on foot.
Prior to leaving, the suspect allegedly tried to steal the hostage’s car; however, he failed to get her keys.
According to witnesses, the suspect was wearing heavily layered clothing and carrying a crowbar when he committed the robbery.
Thankfully, no one at the store was injured as a result of the theft incident.
Woolwich Township NJ police later canvassed the area in search of the suspect. However, police were unable to locate him.
It is believed that the same suspect committed armed robberies at a Rite Aid in Haddonfield a week earlier and at a Rite Aid in Logan Township in May. The suspect allegedly stole prescription painkillers during all three theft incidents.
When allegedly robbing the Logan Township pharmacy, the suspect is believed to have been armed with a knife. During the Haddonfield NJ robbery, the suspect was allegedly armed with a handgun and committed a carjacking as well.
Police departments in Woolwich Township, Logan Township, and Haddonfield are conducting a joint investigation into the robberies. Assisting with the investigation are the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.
Police recently released images of the suspect taken from store surveillance footage. In all three robberies, the suspect was wearing strange clothing. During the Logan Township theft, he reportedly wore yellow safety goggles and a yellow traffic vest; in the Haddonfield robbery, he wore a long yellow rain jacket and a white hard hat and carried an orange traffic cone; during the Woolwich robbery, he wore a reflective yellow vest.
Woolwich police are asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information about the CVS robbery should call Woolwich NJ investigators at 856-467-1667.
Additionally, Rite Aid is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest in the Haddonfield NJ robbery.
