Police are searching for three suspects who allegedly broke into the apartment of a woman in Burlington Township NJ and violently assaulted her.
The attack took place at the Chateau Apartment Complex located on Sunset Road in Burlington Township, New Jersey.
According to law enforcement, the three men knocked on the woman’s apartment door during the early morning hours. When the woman opened the door, the suspects allegedly rushed into the apartment and repeatedly pistol-whipped her.
At some point during the attack, the suspects allegedly held the gun to the victim’s head. They then reportedly shoved the victim to the ground and continued to strike her in the head with the handgun.
When the woman began to scream, the suspects reportedly ran out of the apartment. They then fled the scene in a black four-door vehicle that had Florida license plate tags.
It is believed that the suspects intended to commit a theft and steal possessions from the woman. They reportedly left the scene without stealing anything.
After the assault, the victim was transported to a local hospital so that she could receive medical treatment for her injuries.
The Burlington Township Police Department is actively investigating the incident and looking for leads. However, since the suspects were reportedly wearing masks when they committed the assault, police have yet to identify them.
If the suspects are eventually identified and located, they would likely face serious criminal charges for aggravated assault and armed robbery. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1(b), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon can be classified as a third degree felony. A conviction on third degree aggravated assault charges could lead to a sentence of 3-5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
