Camden County police are investigating a shooting death on a street in Camden, New Jersey.
The victim was an 18-year-old resident of Camden, NJ. He was killed during the early morning hours while he walked on the 2000 block of South 6th Street.
The Camden County Police Department dispatched officers to the area after receiving multiple reports of a shooting. When police got to the scene, they found the victim lying in the middle of the roadway.
Tragically, the victim died as a result of the shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
At this time, the fatal shooting is under investigation by Camden County police and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators do not yet know if there was a motive for the killing, nor have police identified a suspect in the shooting.
If authorities are eventually able to identify and apprehend a suspect, serious criminal charges for homicide could follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is a first degree crime. A conviction for first degree murder could result in a life sentence, with a minimum mandatory sentence of 30 years in New Jersey State Prison.
