An Atlantic City NJ man recently pleaded guilty to the murder of his 64-year-old mother in Mays Landing, New Jersey.
The homicide was committed in October 2014. The suspect, who lived in Atlantic City NJ, was released from prison just days before the killing. He had served a 30-year sentence in Bayside State Prison for assaulting his neighbor with a lead pipe and then shooting him to death in 1984. The suspect was just a teenager at the time, but prosecutors tried him as an adult.
When the suspect was finally released from prison, his friends and family held a “welcome home” party for him. A few days after that, the suspect’s mother was found dead in her residence.
The suspect reportedly admitted to investigators that he bludgeoned his mother to death.
Now prosecutors have reached a plea deal with the suspect. The terms of the plea agreement call for the suspect to be sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison. Additionally, the No Early Release Act (NERA) applies to violent crimes like murder, so the suspect will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence before he becomes eligible for release on parole.
