Police recently arrested a Camden County corrections officer who allegedly downloaded child pornography.
The suspect is a 28-year-old man from Atco, an unincorporated municipality in Waterford Township, NJ. According to Camden County NJ prosecutors, the suspect was caught with images and videos of minors engaging in sexually explicit acts.
Law enforcement got a tip about the suspect possibly possessing child pornography and immediately launched an investigation. Investigators soon got enough evidence to obtain search warrants for the suspect’s home and vehicle.
When executing the search warrants, detectives allegedly discovered child pornography on the suspect’s cell phone and computer.
The suspect has been charged with multiple sex crimes, including possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.
If the suspect is convicted of possessing child pornography, he could be sentenced to years behind bars in New Jersey State Prison. Beyond that, the suspect would likely be required to register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law after completing his prison sentence.
In addition to facing severe penalties that include prison time and sex offender registration requirements, the suspect is also likely to lose his job as a Camden County corrections officer if he is ultimately convicted on the very serious criminal charges. He is currently suspended without pay.
