Camden New Jersey police are searching for a suspect in a fatal shooting that occurred on a city street.
According to Camden NJ law enforcement, the shooting happened around 5:20 p.m. The Camden County Police Department got several calls about gunshots being fired in the area of the 1000 block of Haddon Avenue in Camden, NJ.
Multiple police officers were sent to the area, where they came across the victim lying on the pavement. The victim had sustained serious gunshot wounds.
The 28-year-old victim, who lived in Camden, New Jersey, was transported to Cooper University Hospital. Tragically, doctors could not save the victim; he was pronounced dead just 30 minutes after the shooting.
Camden County police later indicated that the shooting was considered a homicide.
If the shooter is eventually apprehended and convicted, he could be subject to the most severe penalties in the NJ Criminal Code. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, the intentional killing of another person is a first degree felony and carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment, with a minimum mandatory sentence of 30 years behind bars.
