Camden County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting on a street in Camden, New Jersey.
The shooting occurred around 8:45 p.m. According to Camden County NJ law enforcement, two women were walking along South 6th Street in Camden when someone else used a handgun to shoot both of them.
The Camden County Police Department dispatched police officers to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter activation alert about gunshots being fired. When Camden NJ cops got to the scene of the shooting, they found the two victims lying on the ground.
The victim who died was a 21-year-old resident of Camden, NJ. She was pronounced dead just minutes after being wounded in the violent attack.
The other victim in the shooting incident is an 18-year-old female. She sustained significant injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The victim was later listed in stable condition.
The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and the Camden County Police Department are actively investigating the shooting incident. At this time, law enforcement has not been able to identify the shooter. The investigation remains ongoing and authorities hope to identify and apprehend a suspect in the case.
If police can eventually determine the identity of the shooter, it is likely that the individual would face criminal charges of murder, attempted murder, and aggravated assault.
This has not been a good year for law enforcement trying to crack down on violent crime in Camden, New Jersey. So far in 2016, there have been 29 homicides in the city.
