Camden County police are currently investigating three shootings, one of which left a person dead.
All three shootings occurred in Camden, New Jersey, with the last shooting occurring around 1:30 a.m. According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, police received a call about a gunshot being fired on the 3500 block of Pierce Street in Camden, NJ. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a 19-year-old victim lying on the pavement and suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, who lived in Camden NJ, was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where doctors treated him for his gunshot-related injuries. Tragically, doctors at the medical facility were unable to save the victim; he was pronounced dead just 15 minutes after being shot.
There were two other shootings earlier in Camden that night. The first shooting went down around 11:26 p.m. on the 1400 block of South Eighth Street. Three men reportedly approached a parked vehicle and fired a shotgun blast inside the car.
The second shooting happened around 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of Garden Avenue and Freemont Avenue in Camden, New Jersey. A local resident was reportedly walking in the area when a man with a shotgun fired a shot at him.
Thankfully, no one suffered any injuries in these two shooting incidents.
Now the Camden County Police Department is asking for the public’s help with the investigation into the shootings, including the homicide. Camden NJ police recently released surveillance camera photos that show a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt. This man is being called a “person of interest” because he may have information about the shootings.
If law enforcement can eventually determine the person, or persons, responsible for the fatal shooting, it is likely that criminal charges for murder would follow. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, first degree murder is the most serious crime in the NJ Criminal Code and carries a potential penalty of life imprisonment.
