Camden County NJ police are looking into the shooting death of a Camden NJ man who was killed while he walked on a city street.
The Camden County Police Department got a report of a man who was shot in the area of 28th Street and Pierce Avenue in Camden, New Jersey. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim lying in the street.
The victim, a 34-year-old man who lived in Camden, was had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to nearby Cooper University Hospital, where he received medical treatment for his injuries. Tragically, doctors could not save the victim; he was pronounced dead roughly six hours after the shooting incident.
The Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the killing. Law enforcement has not yet identified a suspect or determined whether there was a motive for the killing.
If police can eventually identify and apprehend a suspect, it is possible that the suspect would face murder charges. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, murder is a first degree felony that carries the most severe penalties in the NJ Criminal Code. While most first degree crimes have a maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison, a murder conviction can lead to life imprisonment, with a minimum mandatory term of incarceration of 30 years in state prison.
