Police in Camden NJ arrested a Pennsauken man who was allegedly in possession of a stolen handgun and illegal prescription pills.
Police officers were on patrol near Dudley Street and Mickle Street when they reportedly observed the 25-year-old suspect carrying a gun. The officers approached the suspect and ordered him to halt; when he ignored their order and tried to flee the scene, the officers chased after him. The officers eventually caught the suspect after he turned into an alley and then went into the backyard of a home on the 2900 block of Mickle Street. The officers placed the suspect under arrest, though not without some effort because he allegedly struggled.
According to police, one of the officers saw the suspect attempt to discard the handgun during the chase. Police later recovered the handgun, which they said had been reported stolen in Bridgeton, NJ. Moreover, police said that they found 187 OxyContin pills on the suspect after he was arrested.
A background check by police revealed that the suspect has a prior conviction for drug distribution on his criminal record.
The suspect has now been charged with several new crimes, including unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to possess a weapon, possession of prescription drugs, possession of drugs with intent to distribute near a school, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was transported to the Camden County Jail and held on $250,000 bail.
