Camden New Jersey police recently arrested a local man who allegedly had a gun in his possession while seated in a car driving on a city street.
A Camden NJ police officer was on patrol when he reportedly observed a motor vehicle commit a traffic violation. So the patrol officer pulled over the vehicle at the corner of Haddon Avenue and Atlantic Avenue in Camden, New Jersey.
When the officer walked toward the stopped car, he allegedly saw a passenger in the rear left side of the car try to hide an object. The officer investigated further and reportedly discovered that the passenger was in possession of a loaded handgun.
Police later seized the gun, which was identified as an Interarms .38 Special handgun.
The 27-year-old suspect, who lives in Camden NJ, was placed under arrest without incident. He was charged with several weapons offenses, including unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to possess a weapon. The certain persons charge reportedly stems from a prior conviction for illegal possession of a weapon.
Meanwhile, the driver of the car, a 21-year-old Oaklyn NJ woman, was issued traffic summonses for careless driving and driving with a suspended license. She was later released on her own recognizance.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect arrested for illegal handgun possession was transported to the Camden County Jail. He is being held at the Camden NJ correctional facility in lieu of $125,000 bail.
