Police in Camden, NJ are searching for a suspect in a reported child luring incident.
A man allegedly approached an 11-year-old-girl and attempted to get her to move closer to him. When the child did not move toward the suspect but instead fled the area, the man allegedly chased after her. Thankfully, the child was able to get away.
The incident reportedly took place in the 2600 block of Baird Boulevard in Camden.
Police spoke with the child sometime after the incident and got details about the suspect. Authorities have since released a description of the suspect, who is said to be a black male who stands six-feet tall and has a thin build. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hat, a black shirt, and white pants that had red markings on them.
NJ law enforcement and prosecutors take sex crimes very seriously. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:13-6, a person commits the criminal offense of luring when they attempt to entice a child into a motor vehicle or any other area for the purpose of committing a crime against the child. The statute classifies luring as a second degree felony. This means that if the suspect in this case is identified and convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
If anyone has information about this incident or the suspect, they are asked to immediately get in touch with the Camden County Police Department by calling the department’s tip line at 856-757-7042.
