A Camden New Jersey man was sentenced to several decades behind bars for the murder of a local woman.
According to law enforcement, the suspect was responsible for the fatal shooting, as well as a sexual assault and robbery. Camden County prosecutors said that the suspect, along with another man, robbed the homicide victim around 11:30 p.m. on September 30, 2011.
The victim was walking along Cramer Street in Camden NJ when the suspects approached her and held her up at gunpoint. At some point during the robbery, the suspect fired the gun and struck the victim.
The victim was a 38-year-old woman who lived in Camden, NJ. After being assaulted and shot, she was taken to a nearby hospital. Tragically, doctors could not save her; she died the following day.
Meanwhile, Camden County police were able to apprehend the suspects a short time later. They were allegedly caught not long after committing a home invasion robbery and sexual assault on the same night of the fatal shooting.
The main suspect, a 20-year-old man from Camden, was just 16 years old when he committed the violent criminal offenses. However, given the severity of his crimes, the suspect was waived from juvenile court to adult court, where he was tried as an adult and charged with first degree murder, aggravated sexual assault, armed robbery, burglary, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The Camden County Superior Court judge ultimately sentenced the suspect to a term of incarceration of 41 years in NJ State Prison. Since the crime of murder is covered under the NJ No Early Release Act, the suspect will have to serve at least 32 years in state prison before he becomes eligible for release on parole.
