Two Camden New Jersey men were recently sentenced to prison time on federal charges of cocaine distribution and heroin distribution.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the two suspects played major roles in a massive drug distribution operation that moved cocaine and heroin throughout New Jersey. The drug ring reportedly used Camden NJ as its base of operations. More specifically, the suspects allegedly operated the drug ring near a retail shopping plaza on Eighth Street and Tulip Street, as well as inside the Crestbury Apartments public housing project.
Federal and state authorities conducted a joint investigation in conjunction with the Camden Collaborative Crime Commission. The agencies exchanged information during the investigation and worked together to investigate the illegal drug distribution network. Investigators reportedly utilized a number of resources and techniques, including physical surveillance of the suspects, use of confidential informants, and use of phone wiretaps.
The suspects, both 23-year-old men from Camden, were placed under arrest in April 2013. Five other suspects were also arrested during the drug bust.
The two suspects eventually reached plea deals with prosecutors in the case. They pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, and possession with intent to distribute heroin. Additionally, one of the same suspects pleaded guilty to a certain persons offense for being a convicted felon unlawfully in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.
One of the suspects was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison, while the other suspect received a sentence of 4 years in federal prison.
The other suspects in the case did not reach plea agreements and are set to appear in U.S. District Court for trial in January, 2016.
