Police in Camden NJ are investigating two robberies that might be connected.
According to authorities, the first robbery occurred near the intersection of 23rd Street and High Street. Two men in black attire reportedly got out of a sedan and approached the victim.
Police indicated that the men brandished a gun as they took an unspecified amount of cash, a debit card, and a backpack. After taking the items, the suspects allegedly fled the scene in the sedan.
The second robbery reportedly took place a short time later. According to police, this incident occurred near the corner of Dudley Street and Westfield Avenue.
The victim this time was a pedestrian who was walking down the street. The suspect allegedly got out of a sedan and approached the victim. The suspect reportedly brandished a silver handgun as he forced the victim to turn over his wallet and cell phone.
Camden police released a description of the suspect in the second robbery. He has been described as a black man standing 5 feet, 4 inches tall. He was wearing an orange baseball cap at the time of the offense.
If the suspects in either robbery are apprehended, they could face significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, robbery is classified as a first degree felony when the offender uses or threatens the immediate use of a deadly weapon. This means that the suspects in these robberies could be sentenced to 10–20 years in New Jersey State Prison if they are convicted of armed robbery.
