Police in Camden, NJ are investigating a recent armed robbery.
According to authorities, a woman was robbed at gunpoint on the 700 block of Sylvan Road in Camden.
Police officers were called to the scene after receiving a report of the robbery. When the officers arrived in the area, they spoke with the victim and were informed of the details of the frightening incident. The victim told officers that the suspect brandished a black semi-automatic handgun during the holdup.
According to authorities, the suspect took the victim’s purse before fleeing the area.
Police have released a description of the suspect: he is a black male in his mid-30s; he stands approximately six feet tall; he has a thin build; and he has a full beard.
In accordance with N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, robbery can be classified as a first degree felony if the offender uses a deadly weapon during the offense. In this case, the suspect could face first degree armed robbery charges because he allegedly used a handgun during the theft. As a result, he could be sentenced to between 10 and 20 years in New Jersey State Prison if convicted.
