A Cherry Hill NJ contractor was recently convicted on theft charges in Woodbury, New Jersey.
According to Gloucester County prosecutors, the 43-year-old suspect took payment for services but never actually completed the job.
The suspect was hired after advertising services to install kitchen counters and cabinets. The suspect reportedly posted the ad online on Craigslist.
The victim, who lived in Woolwich Township, saw the suspect’s advertisement and hired him to start a project in January 2013. Although the suspect reportedly collected $2,400, he never started the work.
When the victim complained six months later, the suspect reportedly said that he would be unable to do the work. Beyond that, the victim alleged, the suspect refused to refund any of the money he had been paid.
The suspect was later charged with third degree theft. The case eventually went to trial in Gloucester County Superior Court in Woodbury, New Jersey.
During the trial, the suspect said that the entire case was a result of a misunderstanding.
At the conclusion of the trial, the jury deliberated for just 30 minutes before returning with a guilty verdict.
The suspect will have to make another appearance in Gloucester County Superior Court on January 29 for formal sentencing on the theft charges.
