Police in Cherry Hill NJ recently nabbed a local man who allegedly robbed a woman at a bank.
The robbery occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the Navy Federal Credit Union located on Route 38 in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. While the victim was using an ATM at the bank, the suspect reportedly walked up to her and tried to steal her money. The suspect allegedly managed to grab some of her cash and then flee the area on foot.
Detectives with the Cherry Hill Police Department investigated the theft incident and obtained surveillance footage from the ATM. Additionally, anonymous tips from the public helped Cherry Hill detectives to identify the robbery suspect as a 36-year-old local resident. The suspect, who lives in Cherry Hill, was placed under arrest by police officers at his residence.
The suspect has been charged with robbery. If he is convicted on the robbery charges, he would be subject to severe penalties. That’s because N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1 classifies robbery as a second degree felony when the theft offense does not involve the use of a deadly weapon. (A robbery committed with a firearm or a knife is classified as a first degree crime.) A conviction for second degree robbery could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was remanded to the Camden County Jail in Camden NJ on a $50K bail amount.
