The incident took place last June when Jerden carjacked a woman at knife point in the parking lot of a business on the White Horse Pike. After taking the woman’s Toyota Carolla, Jerdan was chased at around 100 miles per hour for 10 minutes by the police after they spotted the car. He was found with the knife and a backpack matching a description and was charged with carjacking, armed robbery, eluding, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and resisting arrest.
Under New Jersey’s criminal code, carjacking is one of the most serious offenses. It is a first degree crime which generally carries a New Jersey State Prison sentence of 10 to 20 years if convicted. However, the penalty for carjacking is 10 to 30 years. Jerdan will be sentenced on August 28th in Superior Court.
