A Camden New Jersey man reportedly admitted his role in a gun trafficking scheme.
According to federal prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, a man and a woman were arrested in connection with a gun distribution operation. The suspects, a 32-year-old New Jersey man and a 25-year-old South Carolina woman, allegedly planned to sell 25 guns without a license.
The suspects reportedly worked with other individuals to sell a number of weapons, including handguns, shotguns, and assault rifles. The suspects were allegedly able to obtain the guns in stores and pawnshops throughout South Carolina.
Once the suspects had the weapons, they allegedly transported them to New Jersey. In certain , the suspects apparently used Amtrak trains to move the weapons to New Jersey.
The male suspect was caught during an undercover sting. According to prosecutors, the suspect sold at least six weapons to a witness who was working with the federal bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Prosecutors in the case said that the two suspects later admitted to their respective roles in the gun trafficking operation. Moreover, the male suspect reportedly admitted to selling cocaine and Oxycodone pills to the undercover witness.
The suspects will have to appear to federal court in July for sentencing. Both suspects face up to 5 years in federal prison on conspiracy charges. Additionally, the male suspect could be sentenced to 10 years for weapons charges, as well as another 20 years for a cocaine distribution charge.
