A Gibbstown NJ man has pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon charges after allegedly stealing a rifle and then selling it in Camden, New Jersey.
According to Gloucester County prosecutors, the 30-year-old suspect stole the gun from his father in Greenwich Township, NJ. The suspect is also accused of stealing 10 other handguns and rifles from his father in early November.
Prosecutors said that the suspect later sold the rifle in Camden NJ so that he could buy heroin. He then reportedly used the money to purchase 40 packets of heroin.
The suspect recently appeared in Gloucester County Superior Court in Woodbury, where he entered a guilty plea on the weapons offense charges.
As a result of a plea deal with the suspect, prosecutors are expected to recommend that he be sentenced to a term of five years in NJ State Prison. He will not be eligible for release on parole until he has served at least 20 months.
The suspect will have to return to Gloucester County Superior Court in January so that he can be formally sentenced.
Another suspect in the case, a 33-year-old man from Clarksboro NJ, is accused of conspiring with the suspect to steal the weapons. He still faces serious criminal charges in the case.
