Glassboro NJ police recently questioned two men in connection with the drive-by shooting of a Rowan University student.
The victim was at a party at the Campus Crossings apartment complex on Route 322 when someone shot him in the legs. The apartment complex is inhabited by both Glassboro residents and Rowan University students.
According to witnesses at the party, the gunshots came from Chevy Camaro. It is believed that someone in the passenger side of the vehicle fired several rounds. Witnesses said that the gun appeared to be a silver-colored revolver.
After firing the shots, the suspects immediately fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Cooper Trauma Center in Camden, where he received medical treatment for his injuries. He was later released from the hospital.
A short time after the shooting, Gloucester Township NJ police pulled over a vehicle which matched the description provided by witnesses. The driver and the passenger were both 23 years old.
Police officers took the two men into custody and transported them to Glassboro, where Glassboro investigators questioned them.
Police later released one of the suspects from custody. However, the other suspect was taken to the Salem County Jail because he reportedly had outstanding warrants.
If either of the suspects is eventually charged with the shooting, they could be subject to significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1b(2), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is a second degree criminal offense. A conviction on second degree aggravated assault charges is punishable by a sentence of 5–10 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Glassboro police are actively investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspects is asked to contact detectives at 856-881-1500.
