Gloucester Township police are searching for a man accused of committing a bank robbery.
The bank robbery occurred in the afternoon. According to authorities, the suspect walked into the Beneficial Bank branch located at 483 Berlin-Cross Keys road in Gloucester Township, New Jersey. Once the suspect was inside the building, he reportedly approached a bank teller and handed her a note.
Witnesses later told police that the note demanded that the teller hand over cash.
The suspect allegedly got an undisclosed amount of money from the bank employee and then exited the bank. According to law enforcement, the suspect fled the area on foot.
At no point during the robbery did the suspect brandish a weapon.
Thankfully, no one was injured during the theft.
Camden County investigators recently released security camera images of the suspect. The suspect has been described as a black male with a thin build and standing 5-feet-9-inches tall. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was reportedly wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
If the suspect is eventually identified and apprehended, he could face significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, anyone who commits a robbery without a deadly weapon can be charged with a second degree crime. A conviction for second degree robbery could lead to a sentence of 5-10 years in NJ State Prison.
