A man from Deptford, Eric Clason, admitted yesterday to sexually assaulting a teenage girl in 2012. Clason plead guilty in the second degree to sexually assaulting the girl, who was between 13 and 16 at the time of the offense.
A conviction for second degree sexual assault will expose a person to 5 to 10 years in NJ State Prison. However, as part of the plea agreement, the prosecution will recommend that Clason be sentenced to 6 years. Further, he will have to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law which requires that he report his residence, vehicle, and various other information to the police. Clason will also be under community supervision for life after he is out of jail and will have to be evaluated before sentencing at the State Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center to determine if he should serve his sentence there.
