A man convicted of illegally dealing firearms in Camden New Jersey has been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.
The suspect, a 35-year-old man from Philadelphia PA, recently appeared in US District Court in Camden NJ for a formal sentencing hearing. The U.S. District Court judge handed down a sentence of 135 months, which means that the suspect will likely spend more than 11 years in a federal penitentiary.
The suspect reportedly used a “straw buyer,” a 29-year-old Philly woman, to buy handguns from gun shops in Camden, New Jersey. The woman then transferred the firearms to the suspect, who went on to illegally resell the weapons.
When the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives learned about the illegal activity, the agency opened an investigation into the suspect.
The suspect was eventually arrested and charged with multiple weapons offenses, including conspiracy to deal firearms without a license and a certain persons offense for being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. He later pleaded guilty to the very serious criminal charges.
Although the suspect’s case has now been resolved, there are several other individuals who were charged in connection with the illegal operation. Their cases remain pending in federal court.
