Police recently arrested a man accused of committing an armed robbery at a grocery store in Woodlynne, New Jersey.
The violent incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. According to Camden County prosecutors, the suspect entered the D&D Market, which is located on Woodlynne Avenue, and approached the store owner. The suspect was allegedly brandishing a meat cleaver as he walked into the store.
The suspect held the meat cleaver to the victim’s neck and grabbed his cell phone. When the store owner fought back, the suspect reportedly went toward the cash register and removed an undisclosed amount of money.
While the suspect was preoccupied with the cash register, the victim locked him inside the building. The victim then waved down a passing car and told the driver to dial 911.
Meanwhile, the suspect tried to get out of the store by breaking a window. However, the shop owner used a rubber mallet to knock the suspect to the ground. When the suspect got up and attempted to flee the scene, the store owner chased after him.
A short time later, Woodlynne NJ police officers located the suspect at a nearby cemetery and placed him under arrest.
The victim sustained minor injuries, including cuts and lacerations to his hands, during the theft incident.
The 22-year-old suspect, who is from Woodlynne NJ, faces numerous criminal charges, including armed robbery, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and a certain persons offense for being a felon in possession of a weapon.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspect was taken to the Camden County Jail. He was being held at the jail on a $125K bail amount.
