A Westville NJ man has been arrested and charged with committing a murder in Camden New Jersey more than a decade ago.
The 41-year-old suspect is accused of killing a 23-year-old man on August 30, 2002.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect fatally shot the victim at the Chateau Bar & Packaged Goods on the 1700 block of River Road in Camden, New Jersey.
The shooting reportedly stemmed from a fight between the suspect and the victim. Although bar bouncers tried to break up the altercation, it turned very violent and ended with gunshots being fired.
When police officers got to the scene, they found the victim lying on the floor of the bar, situated between two pool tables.
Emergency responders quickly transported the victim to nearby Cooper University Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors were not able to save the victim; he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Camden police conducted an investigation, which included interviewing eyewitnesses at the scene. The eyewitness accounts eventually helped the Camden County Police Department Cold Case Squad identify the suspect after the case appeared to be a lost cause.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Task Force arrested the suspect at a business located near 9th Street and Liberty Street in Camden, NJ.
After being placed under arrest, the suspect was charged with first degree murder. The suspect was later taken to the Camden County Jail.
Additionally, the suspect’s brother was arrested and charged with witness tampering for allegedly threatening a potential witness over the phone.
