Camden County law enforcement is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another person seriously injured.
The shooting incident reportedly occurred around 11:35 p.m. near the intersection of 6th Street and Viola Street in Camden, New Jersey. Camden County police sent officers to the area after receiving a Shot Spotter activation alert about gunshots being fired. Additionally, residents dialed 911 to report the sounds of gunshots in the neighborhood.
Camden County police officers went to the scene and found one victim lying on Viola Street and suffering from serious gunshot wounds. Paramedics rushed the victim to nearby Cooper University Hospital, where doctors tried to save his life. Tragically, the victim died shortly after arrival at the Camden NJ medical facility.
A second person injured in the shooting incident later arrived at the same hospital and received medical treatment.
The Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into the fatal shooting and searching for a suspect. At this time, law enforcement has not identified a suspect in the case.
If police can eventually make an arrest, the culprit could face criminal charges for first degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, and weapons offenses.
