A 54-year-old man from Sicklerville, NJ has been arrested charged with the very serious offense of armed robbery
A Sicklerville police officer responded quickly to a report of a black male approaching a passerby on the street and attempting to rob him at knifepoint. When the officer arrived at the scene, near Broadway and Jackson Street, he searched the area and eventually located the suspect.
After identifying the suspect, the officer moved toward him. According to police, this prompted the suspect to begin running on Broadway near Lansdowne Avenue. The police officer soon caught up to the suspect and stopped him. After stopping the suspect, the police officer placed him under arrest.
According to authorities, the suspect was later patted down and found to be in possession of two dangerous weapons: a couple of folding knives.
The suspect has been formally charged with several criminal offenses, including armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
In New Jersey, robbery is addressed by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1. The statute classifies the offense as a first degree felony if a deadly weapon was used during the commission of the robbery. In this case, the suspect could be sentenced to between 10 and 20 years in New Jersey State Prison if he is convicted of first degree armed robbery.
After being arrested, the suspect was booked and taken to Camden County Jail in Camden, NJ, where he was being held on $140,000 bail.
