A man and woman from Stratford have been arrested for alleged possession heroin with intent to distribute charges.
The arrest are a result of a two month investigation by the police of the Sterling Arms Condominiums on Sunnybrook Road. Police charged the man, Phillip Nigro, with alleged possession of 72 bags of heroin near the Yellin Elementary School which means that the penalties will be more severe for him. He was released after posting $50,000 bail. The woman, Mallory Wright, was arrested for outstanding warrants and other drug charges. She was released on $3,000 bail.
Possession of heroin with intent to distribute is quite serious in New Jersey. In Nigro’s case, the fact that it was within 1000 feet of a school zone will make the penalties even more severe. Depending on the weight of the heroin involved, a person can be subject to 10 to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison for possession with intent to distribute. There is also a presumption of incarceration for this offense meaning if the person is convicted, they will have to serve time in prison.
