Authorities arrested a man who allegedly shot and killed one person and seriously injured another person on a street in Camden, New Jersey.
The violent incident went down a short time before 3:00 a.m. According to law enforcement, the suspect walked along the 1200 block of Whitman Avenue in Camden NJ and used a firearm to shoot two other people who were on the street at the same time.
The Camden County Police Department received a ShotSpotter activation alert about multiple gunshots being fired in the area and immediately sent police officers to the scene. When police got to the area, they came across the two victims.
Both victims were rushed to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. One of the victims, a 57-year-old Camden NJ resident, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other victim, a 32-year-old man who also lives in Camden NJ, was treated for his gunshot wounds and was later listed in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office conducted a joint investigation into the double shooting incident. Investigators soon identified a 29-year-old man as the shooter. He was later apprehended by officers with the US Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force.
The suspect has been charged with multiple crimes, including first degree murder, attempted murder, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
After being arrested and processed, the suspect was moved to the Camden County Jail. He was being held at the jail in lieu of a $3 million bail amount.
