Two men from Atlantic City have been sentenced to prison in connection to a robbery homicide.
The two men, Aziz Sanders and DeShawn Hicks, were found guilty of the abduction and killing of a teen mother from Atlantic City that took place in 2011. They had originally planned to rob a different man and the mother happened to be home at the time of the robbery. The defendant’s plead to using a firearm and aiding and abetting the use of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
The penalties that these two men received were quite severe. Sanders, who is 21 years old, received a 30 year sentence in New Jersey State Prison. Hicks, who is 22, received a 20 year sentence in State Prison. Both will also have to serve 5 years of supervised release even after they get out of prison and pay $1.5 million dollars in restitution to the victims family. Further, 85 percent of the sentences must be served before they are even eligible for parole.
