A man from Williamstown has plead guilty to third degree theft and was sentenced on Friday.
Dannie Garwood’s plea deal stems from theft charges that arose when he allegedly stole money from a check cashing service in Williamstown. He was arrested after an employee at the service recognized certain facial features and speech in a woman, who turned out to be Garwood’s mother, that were similar to a man who previously took money from the business.
Garwood has been in jail on $250,000 bail since last year. His plea deal will result in 5 years in New Jersey State Prison as well as a restitution payment of over $5600 to the check cashing service. The presiding judge stated that this prison sentence was given because Garwood has an addiction and he would continue to be “lawless” until he deals with it.
