A woman accused of driving drunk was involved in a car accident on a highway in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
The DWI accident occurred at 1:38 a.m. on Route 70 in Cherry Hill, NJ. The suspect was driving a green 1998 Chevy Malibu and headed eastbound on Route 70. As the vehicle approached the Wawa located on Kingston Drive, the suspect reportedly swerved into the wrong lane and crashed into a Cherry Hill police cruiser that was traveling westbound on the highway.
Law enforcement indicated that the Cherry Hill NJ cop attempted to avoid a collision by swerving, but he could steer clear of the oncoming vehicle.
The head-on collision totaled both vehicles and caused serious injuries to both the police officer in the patrol car and the suspect driving the Chevy. Both auto accident victims were rushed to Cooper University Hospital in Camden NJ, where they received medical treatment for their injuries. The Cherry Hill officer was eventually released from the medical facility.
Meanwhile, Cherry Hill police had to shut down a stretch of Route 70 for several hours in the immediate aftermath of the motor vehicle accident.
Authorities are now indicating that the suspect was Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) at the time of the crash. As a result, she has been charged with a DWI. Additionally, police cited the suspect for multiple traffic violations, including careless driving.
If the suspect is convicted on the DWI charges, she could end up losing her driving privileges in New Jersey for a very long time.
