Police recently arrested a woman accused of driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Interstate 295 in West Deptford Township, NJ.
According to NJ State Police, the suspect was driving a Toyota Prius northbound in the southbound lanes on I-295 a short time before 4:30 a.m. when she slammed into a Ford F150 pickup truck. The car accident occurred near mile marker 21.5 on the highway.
Afterwards, the driver of the other vehicle was taken to Inspira Medical Center in Woodbury, NJ. The victim received medical treatment at the hospital for minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the suspect was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. She received medical treatment at the hospital for her accident-related injuries.
After the car crash, authorities closed all southbound lanes on I-295. However, the highway was reopened for all traffic once the wreckage had been cleared.
If the suspect is convicted on the drunk driving charges, she faces significant penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 39:4-50, a first offense DWI violation could result in up to 30 days in the county jail and a driver’s license suspension lasting three months.
