Police have recently arrested a man and a woman and charged them with conspiring to commit human trafficking and promoting prostitution.
According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Levin Orr, a 24-year-old resident of Glassboro, and Jennie Norcross, a 25-year-old resident of Blackwood, were arrested and charged with human trafficking after they allegedly prostituted a 16-year-old girl using an Internet website to offer sexual services. The arrest followed an investigation by the Major Crimes Unit of the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities have notified the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of the human trafficking charges. The New Jersey Division of Families has taken Norcross’s three children into custody.
Orr and Norcross, each being held in default of $100,000 bail, will likely receive jail time if they are ultimately convicted of these crimes. Promoting prostitution, governed by N.J.S.A. 2C:34-1, is typically a third degree felony offense punishable by a term of 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison. Furthermore, if the prostitution involved a person under the age of 18, as it allegedly does in this case, it becomes a second degree offense punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison.
