Three 17 year old males from Willingboro were arrested for allegedly smoking marijuana in a parked car over the weekend.
Westhampton Township Police responded to reports of the youths allegedly smoking at Downing Court where they proceeded to arrest all three of them. The police also allegedly found marijuana in the car after a search and one of the suspects then claimed that the drugs were his. He was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams.
Since the suspect is a minor, if he does not have a criminal record he is likely to avoid jail time. Many times for minors, the criminal justice system is more concerned with deterrence and rehabilitation rather than punishment. If the prosecution tries to charge him as an adult and he is found guilty, which would be the worst case scenario, penalties for possession of under 50 grams can include 6 months in county jail and fines up to $1,000.
