A Pennsauken NJ man has been sentenced to 27 years in New Jersey State Prison for a fatal car accident in Merchantville, New Jersey.
According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the 33-year-old suspect was driving a Dodge Durango at an excessive speed, between 70 and 100 mph in a 25-mph zone, when he collided head-on with another vehicle.
The fatal collision occurred near the intersection of Chapel Avenue and Russell Avenue in Merchantville, NJ. At the time of the crash, the suspect was reportedly driving in an oncoming lane of traffic.
The other vehicle involved in the accident was a Honda Odyssey. The 36-year-old driver of the other car was killed in the crash. The driver’s 18-year-old daughter was also killed as a result of the accident. Both victims were from Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
A 26-year-old female passenger in the suspect’s vehicle was seriously injured. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she received medical treatment.
An investigation into the fatal accident revealed that the suspect had high levels of PCP in his blood and urine. According to prosecutors, the suspect did not dispute these findings.
The suspect pleaded guilty earlier this year to two counts of first degree aggravated manslaughter and one count of second degree assault by auto.
Now the suspect has been sentenced to serve 27 years in NJ State Prison. Additionally, since the charges are covered by the No Early Release Act, the suspect will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before be become eligible for release on parole.
