New York state police arrested a Camden NJ man for allegedly leading officers on a high-speed chase through New York.
According authorities, the 24-year-old suspect was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 81 north in Cortlandville, NY. When a state trooper approached the suspect’s vehicle, the suspect allegedly sped away. A high-speed chase ensued, with officers following the suspect for roughly 14 minutes as he dangerously swerved in and out of lanes on the highway. Police later said that the suspect reached speeds exceeding 100 mph while attempting to get around cars and bypass traffic on the busy interstate.
The suspect eventually stopped his vehicle at mile marker 66 in Tully, NY.
When police investigated, they determined that the suspect had been driving while under the influence of drugs.
State troopers searched the suspect’s vehicles and found a small amount of marijuana, as well as a few oxycodone pills.
The suspect was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful fleeing, marijuana possession, and unlawful possession of prescription drugs. He was also charged with a number of traffic violations, including reckless driving.
After being placed under arrest and charged, the suspect was arraigned at the Cortlandville Town Court. He was then sent to the Cortland County Jail in in Cortland NY, where he was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
