Pennsauken NJ police arrested a man who allegedly assaulted his estranged wife with a meat cleaver.
According to authorities, the 46-year-old Camden NJ suspect broke into the victim’s home, which is located on the 5500 block of Jefferson Avenue in Pennsauken, New Jersey. The break-in reportedly occurred early in the morning.
Once inside the house, the suspect allegedly confronted his estranged wife and threatened her with a meat cleaver and a utility knife. The suspect then allegedly stabbed the victim several times.
The victim was reportedly able to get out of the home and into her backyard. However, the suspect allegedly chased the victim into the backyard and continued to attack her as she fled.
Pennsauken police officers were called to the scene. When officers arrived at the house, they reportedly found the suspect standing over the victim. The officers pulled their guns on the suspect and were eventually able to take him into custody.
The victim was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where she was treated for her injuries. Thankfully, she was listed in stable condition a day later.
The suspect has been charged with attempted murder, burglary, and violation of a restraining order.
After being arrested and charged, the suspect was transported to Camden County Jail. He is being held at the facility in lieu of $750,000 bail.
This is not the first time the suspect has been accused of committing domestic violence against his estranged wife. According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect attacked the victim with a small wooden baseball bat in 2013.
The suspect was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. After a trial in Camden County Superior Court, the jury found the defendant guilty of simple assault. The suspect was sentenced to 180 days in the local county jail; however, he was immediately released from custody due to having already served a sufficient amount of time in jail.
