Camden NJ Man Accused of Shooting Over Romantic Rivalry, Convicted of Manslaughter

Camden NJ Manslaughter ConvictionA Camden NJ man has been convicted of manslaughter for a fatal shooting in 2011.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, the 34-year-old suspect fatally shot the 46-year-old victim on the 1400 block of Rose Street in Camden, New Jersey.

The shooting allegedly occurred at the suspect’s home in Camden, NJ. The victim also lived in Camden, New Jersey.

Shortly before the fatal shooting, the victim was standing outside the suspect’s residence and attempting to communicate through a window. According to witnesses, the suspect walked out of his house and then shot the victim several times.

Authorities alleged that the shooting stemmed from a verbal dispute between the suspect and the victim. The suspect and the victim were allegedly engaged in a romantic rivalry. The two reportedly argued on the night of the shooting because they were dating the same woman.

After the shooting, the suspect fled to Chicago, where he stayed at a relative’s home. U.S. Marshals eventually tracked down the suspect and placed him under arrest.

Now a Camden County jury has found the suspect guilty of passion provocation manslaughter. During the trial, Camden County prosecutors presented evidence that showed how the suspect shot the victim multiple times. The evidence was backed up by the testimony of witnesses.

The jury also convicted the suspect of multiple weapons offenses, including unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The suspect will have to return to Camden County Superior Court for sentencing on June 5. The judge will have the option to sentence the suspect to as many as 25 years in New Jersey State Prison.
