A Camden NJ man has been convicted of murdering his girlfriend’s mother in Merchantville, New Jersey.
The homicide occurred on November 13, 2013 at the 50-year-old victim’s residence in Merchantville, NJ. According to Camden County prosecutors, the 28-year-old suspect forced his way into the victim’s home two weeks after his girlfriend broke up with him. Once inside the house, the suspect fatally stabbed the victim with a knife.
Additionally, the suspect allegedly tried to use the knife to kill his 22-year-old girlfriend.
The suspect was later tracked down at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and placed under arrest. He was subsequently charged with the murder of his girlfriend’s mother and the attempted murder of his girlfriend. The suspect also faced charges for burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Now the suspect has been found guilty on the murder charges, as well as the attempted murder charges. The suspect was also convicted on the weapons offense charges and the burglary charges.
At the conclusion of the trial, which began on October 6 in Camden County Superior Court, the jury found the suspect guilty on all charges.
Since murder is classified as a first degree felony under N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3, the suspect could be subject to significant penalties when he is formally sentenced.
The suspect will return to Camden County Superior Court in Camden NJ on December 4. At that time, he will be sentenced by the superior court judge. The suspect faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment in New Jersey State Prison.
