A Camden NJ man has been sentenced to 25 years in New Jersey State Prison for killing a woman in Gloucester County in 2014.
The suspect, a 59-year-old Camden resident, was charged with first degree aggravated manslaughter in connection with the homicide. Now he will be headed to prison for more than two decades after reaching a plea agreement with Camden County prosecutors.
The suspect’s alleged accomplice in the murder is a 38-year-old man from Camden, New Jersey. His trial on charges of first degree murder is set to begin in September 2016.
The victim was 41-year-old resident in Camden NJ and was an acquaintance of one of the suspects. On May 12, 2014, the suspect who recently pleaded guilty in the case went to her home and picked her up in his van. He was supposed to be driving her to a car dealership so that she could purchase a new vehicle. Instead, the suspect drove to his accomplice’s house and picked him up. The men then stopped at a Home Depot located in Cherry Hill and reportedly bought duct tape. The suspects allegedly used the duct tape to confine the victim and placed her in the back of the van.
The two suspects, who worked together on a New Jersey landscaping business, allegedly took the victim to a wooded area in Monroe Township and buried her while she was still alive.
It is believed by authorities that the suspects stole $8,000 in cash from the victim.
Two days after the homicide, law enforcement arrested the suspects at a Cherry Hill NJ hotel. One of the suspects reportedly had $7,000 in cash on him at the time of his arrest.
The suspect who has pleaded guilty in the case will not be eligible for release on parole until he has served at least 21 years behind bars.
